2020 Lexus IS: Lexus performance and styling in a compelling package

Just over 20 years ago, Lexus launched the first generation of the IS. At the time, the European brands ruled the sport luxury segments and they weren’t ready for what was in store. Seemingly out of nowhere, the new Lexus IS demonstrated to all that pure driving pleasure and exhilarating performance need not come from the Old Continent.

Over the last two decades, the Lexus IS has cemented its position as one of the finest, most rewarding luxury sedans to own and drive. For 2020, Lexus is spicing things up somewhat with two limited-production models in the IS 300 AWD and the IS 350 AWD BlackLine Edition.

Previously, only the IS 300 AWD was available as a BlackLine Edition but now, our most powerful IS 350 AWD will get the BlackLine Edition treatment. The process begins with an F SPORT Series 2 model enriched with unique styling upgrades and finished in a choice of colour combinations such as Ultra White and Obsidian Black with black/blue interior.

The 2020 Lexus IS 300 RWD is powered by a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that puts out 241-horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the IS 300 RWD delivers a truly dynamic driving experience.

With the Canadian climate in mind, the following two versions of the sporty 2020 Lexus IS gain our sophisticated all-wheel-drive system. Constantly scouring the road ahead, the advanced AWD system transfers power between axles as needed for maximum and superior traction. Both the IS 300 AWD and the IS 350 AWD are powered by the well-established 3.5-litre V6.

The IS 300 AWD features 260-horsepower while the IS 350 AWD is blessed with a full 311-horsepower. Both get a slick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission for all-out performance and efficiency.

The 2020 Lexus IS remains as distinct as it always has. No matter the angle, the car’s head-turning design sets it apart from the competition. The Lexus signature spindle grille, flanked by large air intakes and framed by our signature L-shaped LED headlamp are definite signs that this car is made for driving. Onboard, the driver feels immediately at home where all manners of important controls fall immediately underhand.
