The 2025 Lexus NX brings a comprehensive suite of advanced technology features that transform...
The Lexus IS is a luxury sports sedan that continues to hold its reputation for performance and value. With numerous amenities, it offers one of the lowest starting MSRPs in its class. The IS has been in the market for over 20 years because of its ability to beat the competition on several levels. Today we compare the 2020 Lexus IS to the 2020 Audi A4.
Although both vehicles have similar starting MSRPs, it’s easier to understand that the Lexus IS offers more for the price. Both include three trims, but the IS includes unique power for each one, whereas each A4 shares a single engine and transmission. Every IS has its own character and not just a few different features.
The 2020 Lexus IS offers a unique engine for each trim
The 2020 Lexus IS includes two engines with three unique horsepower profiles that satisfy a variety of performance tastes. The IS 300 RWD receives a 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque that creates a truly unique feel. It pairs with an eight-speed, direct shift automatic transmission for an exhilarating driving experience. AWD 300- and 350-level trims feature a 3.5L naturally aspirated six-cylinder that produces 260 hp on the IS 300 and 311 hp on the IS 350 trims.
The Audi 4 Series offers just one engine, a turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Not only does it fall short of two IS engines, it just barely exceeds the output of the IS’s least powerful engine. The A4 only offers one transmission, whereas two are available on the IS. Each Audi A4 trim produces the same performance that does little to differentiate each trim level. That is difficult to justify in a performance luxury vehicle series.
Sink into more room in the 2020 Lexus IS
The Lexus IS includes a driver-centered interior that features surprisingly roomy measurements. The front legroom of 1134 mm offers plenty of rest area for longer trips. The front seats also offer 1421 mm of shoulder room. But where the Lexus really sets itself apart is the inclusions. While they are available on the IS’s base model, with the A4 you have to up in variants to get premium elements like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and 8-way power adjustable driver and passenger seats.
