Lexus offers a full line of hybrid engine models and no matter what type of vehicle we're looking for, chances are there is a hybrid version available. Lexus is also the luxury manufacturer with the most electrified models in its range and introduced its first hybrid model 15 years ago.
If you are looking for a luxury vehicle that is also hybrid, the Lexus range and Erin Park Lexus will be able to help you. Our advisors can explain Lexus hybrid technology in detail and help you better understand the differences between a hybrid vehicle and a traditional engine model. Before we look at the entire Lexus hybrid lineup, let's take a look at the technology itself and how it works.
Self-charging hybrid motor
Lexus hybrids are powered by a self-charging motor, which means you don't have to plug it in or charge the electric motor's battery. In other words, there is no charging station to install at home and you always benefit from the fuel savings offered by the hybrid engine.
There are different hybrid engine configurations within the Lexus lineup, but they all share the same basic idea. The engine combines a modern and economical gasoline engine with a powerful battery and one or more electric motors. These engines take care of different driving elements and reduce the input of the gasoline engine resulting in better fuel economy.
The electric motor comes into play as soon as you push the start button. When you accelerate steadily, the electric motor(s) help the gasoline engine while, at the lower end of the acceleration, the electronic continuously variable transmission provides enhanced performance by taking advantage of the abundant torque instantly delivered by electric motors.
At cruising speed or when you slow down, the energy generated is used to charge the battery. That’s why you don’t have to charge the vehicle. When stationary, the gasoline engine can sometimes shut off to save fuel.
The important point here is that all of these operations are managed by the vehicle in order to make driving as efficient as possible depending on road conditions, driver behavior, battery charge and a host of other variables. Behind the wheel, you don't have to adapt your driving style, the vehicle will take care of optimizing fuel economy while giving you the performance you are looking for from your luxury vehicle.
