The 2025 Lexus NX brings a comprehensive suite of advanced technology features that transform...
The IS has been turning heads for almost 20 years in Canada, and this year's model continues that tradition - and more. It improves rigidity through improvements to the chassis and suspension that refine the relationship between vehicle and driver. Combine that with unforgettable style, and you'll understand that this luxury sedan is one of the favorites in its segment. Several variants represent the range for 2021, including the IS 300 RWD, IS 300 AWD and IS 350 AWD.
Here we compare the new IS with a major rival, the Volvo S60.
2021 Lexus IS Maximizes Looks With Exceptional Value
When the two vehicles are placed next to each other, the design difference could not be more apparent. The IS, with its sleek aerodynamics, sporty appearance and attention to detail, contrasts with the conservative and more boxy appearance of the S60.
The IS offers two trims - the IS 300 RWD and the IS 300 AWD - which are close to the Volvo S60's entry MSRP of $ 42,400. At this level, the S60 offers only one model, the Momentum. The IS 350 AWD, which is the highest quality in this Lexus lineup, has a starting MSRP of $ 53,300. Volvo's top-of-the-line model, Polestar Engineered, is in a different price universe, starting at $ 80,800.
The 2021 Lexus IS Masters Performance
The IS has three powertrains that deliver the right kind of performance for your driving style. The rear-drive IS 300 features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 241 horsepower. New for 2021, it features adaptive transmission control that uses the G-force artificial intelligence system to help you select the optimum gear for your driving situation. You won't find this kind of technology combination on the Volvo S60.
The IS 300 AWD features a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine producing 260 horsepower on a chassis optimized for changing road conditions. To enhance athletic ability, the AWD system maintains a 30:70 power distribution between the front and rear wheels.
However, the system can distribute a 50:50 power split depending on the conditions. The S60 distributes most of its power to the front wheels under normal conditions, which reduces performance.
The IS 350 AWD maximizes power to 311 horsepower, which is virtually the same as the S60 Inscription and more expensive R-Design models.
