Lexus posted a 10% increase in overall sales in 2019 from the previous year, setting a new record for Toyota’s luxury division.
Lexus sold 765,330 units during the year with the arrival of the Lexus UX subcompact crossover, the new generation of the Lexus ES sedan and the refreshment of the Lexus RX crossover contributing to this worldwide success.
Sales remained stable in North America with 325,000 units sold, while the Chinese market (including Hong Kong) experienced a meteoric increase of 25%, with 202,000 units sold. The markets of Europe (14%), Japan (13%), the Middle East (8%) and East Asia (8%) also ended 2019 on a positive note.
In addition, the Lexus brand has already announced its plans for the future. "Based on our vision called Lexus Electrified, we will expand our range of electrified vehicles, starting with the launch of our first fully electric vehicle, the Lexus UX 300e," said Koji Sato, President of Lexus International. The UX 300e will initially be sold in China, Europe and Japan, and could eventually arrive on the North American market at this time. Lexus is also preparing for the arrival of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, 100% electric and fuel cell engines in the coming years.
