You often hear about a model that has been track tested to see its chassis get the best settings. In the case of the Lexus IS, the reverse happened. In fact, Lexus built a circuit to develop it, nothing less. The new IS therefore becomes the first Lexus car to be developed on this track, which will undoubtedly be used in the development of many other models in the future.

The move is significant for Lexus, as it marks a change in philosophy in the development of new products.

Mechanics

Under the hood, the same reliable, high-performance engines are found. The 2-liter turbo 4-cylinder powers the rear-wheel drive version IS 300. It offers 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and sees its power sent to the wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Then there is the 3.5-liter V6 which is served in two ways. With the IS 300 AWD model, it offers 260 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Under the hood of the IS 350 AWD, its performance climbs to 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The V6 works in harmony with a six-speed automatic transmission.

On board

Inside, small improvements take the IS’ modern interior to another level. For example, to make life easier for the driver, the multimedia screen (8 or 10.3 inches, depending on equipment) has been moved closer for more user-friendly access.

When it comes to connectivity, the 2021 Lexus IS offers something for everyone with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa Assistant. Then, on the safety side, the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite comes standard with a host of features designed to protect us in all circumstances.
